RR-1 Hardtail Bobber

About the RR-1 Hardtail Bobber

The RR-1 is a fresh new take on an iconic motorcycle style, forged from the engine and chassis of the Suzuki S40. The bolt-on tail assembly and custom kit components are seamlessly integrated into the classic lines of a hard tail bobber, maximizing every advantage of the 650cc air-cooled thumper and resulting in a bike that's fun to build and a blast to ride.

The bobber was designed by Ryan Rajewski in Los Angeles. Ryan studied automobile design and is the co-founder of Ryca Motors. Here's what he says about the bike:

"In my opinion, if it's going to be called a bobber it has to have a hard tail, so I set out to create a rear frame section that flowed seamlessly with the original. Once the shock towers are removed, the Savage/S40 frame is ideal for a hard tail design, and I used the solid factory mounting points to create the fully bolt-on tail section. This design lowers the bike 2 inches and stretches the wheelbase over 3 inches for that long, low and lean look. I then created a false oil tank to house the electronics. I also added a hinged solo seat with chrome springs hidden between the frame rails and topped it off with a classic old-school peanut tank. Lastly, I created a shorty header pipe that follows the lines of the engine and frame.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the final result -- simply a modern interpretation of a timeless, classic design. The RR-1 is surprisingly comfortable as well. With adjustable seating position and our optional oversized tires, this monster is ready to turn heads on your next cruise night."

RR-1 Hardtail Bobber Kit

Build your own custom motorcycle with a RYCA RR-1 Hardtail Bobber Kit. The bolt-on parts are designed specifically for the Suzuki S40 / Savage. Since no welding or fabrication is required, the project can be completed with basic tools and skills.

You can build a cafe racer, bobber, scrambler, and more. All the custom parts bolt on with no welding or fabrication required. Customize your options, add accessories, and calculate the price of your kit.
RYCA kits work with all year models. The Suzuki S40 (aka Savage or LS650) is inexpensive and easy to find new or used. It's classic 650cc single engine features electric start, great fuel economy, and easy maintenance.
60 lbs of weight is removed (and can be sold). The simple chassis of an S40 is the perfect starting point for your custom bike. There's no need to remove the engine, and none of the required frame cuts compromise structural integrity.
You can complete your project with basic tools and skills. Video guides of the installation process will help you as your project progresses. The transformation is striking -- it takes about a week and no one will believe you started with a Suzuki S40.
...and be prepared for a few questions. Sure, it will turn some heads. But it's also a blast on the road. A RYCA is a simple, fun, and affordable bike that gives you a hands-on experience with the machine you ride.

What comes in the kit? Do I need to purchase anything else to complete my bike?
The RR-1 Kit includes everything you will need to transform your Suzuki S40 / Savage into a custom hardtail bobber.

Does the RR-1 kit bolt on or do I have to weld?
All RYCA kits are 100% bolt on, including the hard tail bobber. Only a few cuts to the frame need to be made to assemble your kit, nothing which affects structural integrity. Watch the build videos on our Youtube Channel for more info.

Do I need to send my Suzuki tank and hub like the other kits?
No, the bobber kit is complete out of the box using your stock rear wheel and a new gas tank.

What years of Suzuki S40/Savage/LS650 will your kit work with?
Since the chassis stayed the same from year to year, our kit will fit ALL models.

Do I need the new tires, or can I just use my stock IRC tires on the Suzuki?
Technically, you can use the stock 140/80-15 rear IRC tire, but we recommend the larger 150/90-15 tire to better match the fender size included with the kit. The stock rear tire will look small. The front 100/90-19 tire is left unchanged. We offer a set of white wall and black wall tires for the bobber as well.

Why can't I order my kit with the parts already painted?
1. The paint is easily damaged in shipping.  2. You'll want to do some test fitting of your unpainted kit parts before final assembly. It's much easier without worrying about scratching new paint.  3. You can have your parts painted locally for a better price than we could paint them for you.  4. Having your paint done locally allows you to see the actual color in person, color match your parts correctly, and have a custom paint job done to your specs. Check out the Customer Builds section of the website to get some ideas.

Is documentation included in the kit?
Yes. Build guides, videos, and tech support are provided. The build guides can be found in the Resources section of the website. Instructional videos are posted on our YouTube Channel. Please email help@rycamotors.com for tech support.

Does the price include shipping?
No. Please contact us for a shipping quote. Shipping costs within the U.S. are typically between $75 and $140 depending on options.

Can you ship internationally?
Yes. International customers are responsible for all shipping costs, duty/tariff fees, and import taxes. Please contact us for a shipping quote.

What is the seat height?
The seat height is 25 inches.

What is the capacity of the fuel tank?
The peanut tank is approximately 2.3 gallons, which should take you 80-120 miles depending how hard you ride.

My speedometer seems to be reading slow. Is this normal?
With the chain drive conversion, the gearing is changed for a more comfortable ride and much better gas mileage, as well as a higher top speed. As a tradeoff, the gauge will read about 20% slower than stock. Example 80mph = 100mph and 80 miles on the odometer = 100 actual miles.

Can I keep the stock belt drive?
No. The wheelbase of the RR-1 has been extended 4 inches, so the belt is too short. A chain and new gearing are required. It makes for much better gearing, saves gas, and increases top speed.

What is the decompression thumb lever?
The optional decompression lever allows you to open the exhaust valves very slightly upon starting the engine and replaces the bulky and heavy stock decompression solenoid. It's not required, but it makes the engine a little easier to start sometimes.

What tools do I need?
Other than a basic set of hand tools, an angle grinder is highly recommended for the frame cuts. A Dremel tool will also work, or even a hacksaw if you want to keep it super old school. But an angle grinder is ideal, allowing you to easily cut through the frame and smooth out the edges with a flapper disk afterwards. A basic motorcycle lift (shown below) is also recommended and can be used in the future for maintenance, etc. Here's a list of recommended tools and supplies.

Do you offer bulk/dealer discounts?
Yes, contact us for details.

Are there any performance upgrades?
Re-jetting your carb is a very simple procedure and will improve performance. A Jet Set is included with the kit. Brake line upgrades are also available.
